Jackie was drafted into the US Army 4 March 1968. Jackie arrived in Vietnam 22 February 1969 and was assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Calvary Regiment, 1st Calvary Division, USARV. He was at an observation base in Phuoc Long, when the area came under hostile rocket fire. Jackie was transferred to a hospital in Japan where he died as a result of his wounds.
Survived by his parents, Otis F and Annie Lou Bass of Route #3, Cochran, Georgia.
Posthumously awarded the Silver Star.
