Died September 30, 2012, at West Falls Center, Potomac Falls, VA. Chicago born, Joan married US Foreign Service Officer Thomas F. Conlon in 1949 and raised eight children: Terence (Virginia), Margaret Madigan (Jim), Celia Shepard (Dick), Peter, and Claudia. Joan was predeceased by three sons, William, Timothy, and Thomas Jr, and her brother William. She is survived by eight grandchildren. Joan made a home for her family in Cuba, Southeast Asia, France, and Australia as well as Washington, NC. A vibrant personality, she had a deep faith. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 46633 Algonkian Pkwy, Potomac Falls, Saturday, October 6, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dominican University, 7900 W Division St., River Forest, IL 60305.
