Robert Edward Mark, Kansas City Kan., died peacefully Tuesday, June 13, 2006 surrounded by family and friends. Bob was born December 31, 1929 in Iola, Kan., to William Harold and Ruth (Boyer) Mark. He attended Baldwin KS High School, where he was a star running back on the football team. He was also an outstanding semi-professional baseball player. He joined the Navy in 1947 and earned three battle stars for his duty in the Korean conflict. Returning home from the service, he worked for nearly 40 years for the AtchisonTopeka- Santa Fe Railroad as an electrician. He was a proud member of the IBEW Local 866. He enjoyed the outdoor activities of hunting and fishing and he was an avid fan of Kansas Jayhawk basketball, the Chiefs and Royals. Bob was known as "Mr. Fix It" and never hesitated to share with his family and friends. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. He supported his grandchildren's academic, athletic and performing arts endeavors. He was always seen at the Bishop Ward baseball and girls basketball games. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who loved him very much. Bob is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kathy; his son Kevin and wife Paula of Midvale, Utah and their children Emily, David and Stephanie Mark, Gregory, Lauren and Allison Tripp; his son Keith and his wife Jeanne of Basehor, Kan., and their children Zachary, Jacob and Anna Mark; his brother John Mark and wife Nancy of Kansas City, Kan.; his sisters Marjorie Chapman of Smithville, Mo., and Sandra Sue Dinham and husband David, Overland Park, Kan. He was preceded in death by his brother Frank "Doc" Mark and sister Helen VanVoorhis and parents William Harold Mark and Ruth Mary (Boyer) Mark. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 18, at Meyers Family Funeral Home, KCK. Funeral liturgy services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday June 19 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, KCK. Mr. Mark will be laid to rest with full Military honors at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Little League Royals.
