Florence Marion Gardiner, Carleton Place, died in Queensway-Carleton Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario, Tuesday, October 3, 1978 after a short illness in her 80th year. Born May 27,1899 in Beckwith Township , Mrs. Gardiner was a daughter of the late Francis A. Bennett and his wife, Florence E. Kidd. She was educated in Beckwith Township, Carleton Place High School, and Toronto Teachers' College. Mrs. Bennett's marriage to the late W. Oliver Gardiner took place June 11, 1924 in St. James’ Anglican Church, Franktown. A retired school teacher, Mrs. Gardiner lived all her life in Carleton Place and district. She was a member of St. John's Anglican, Innisville and the Anglican Church Women. (ACW). She was also a member of Innisville Women’s Institute. Mrs. Gardiner is survived by two daughters, Saidee, (Mrs. Ken Dowdall), George, Ontario and Thelma (Mrs. Mel Dowdall), Carleton Place. She is also survived by two sons, T. Francis Gardiner , Galetta, and Kenneth E.G. Gardiner, R. R. # 1, Carleton Place. As well as her sister, Alice (Mrs. E. P. Robertson), R. R. # 6, Perth. Mrs. Gardiner is also survived by 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one sister, Gertrude (Mrs. J. M. Sheil) and one brother, Harold Bennett. The funeral took place from the Barker Funeral Home, Carleton Place to St. John’s Church, Innisville for service Friday, October 6, 1978 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Roger Young officiating. Interment took place in St. John’s cemetery. Pallbearers were John Sheil, Howard Bennett, Eric Robertson, Arnold Jackson, Clifford Gardiner and Thomas Gardiner.
