Erastus Ketchum, Jr

He was the son of Erastus Ketchum, Sr. and Christiana Churchill. He married Mary Jane Churchill (his first cousin) on March 4, 1849. He was the first white trapper on either fork of the Dupage river. Erastus was known as Old Ketch, a Methodist trustee in 1866. He had a wonderful soprano voice and sang old church tunes. He was a friend of the Indians, hunted for bees, and trapped most every county from Lake Michigan to Cairo, across the state of Illinois. Prior to the 1850 Census, they adopted a daughter, Marcie, who was born in Canada.
