Elizabeth Betsey (Larrabee) Pierce was born in 1798 in Baldwin, Cumberland, Maine to Zebulon Larrabee (1757-1799) and Susan Goodwin (1765-1835). On June 10, 1818 at age 20 she married William Pierce in Hiram. They had nine children together, four girls and five boys: Susan Pierce Meeds (1819-1876), Rebecca W. Pierce (1821-1884), Elizabeth Pierce (1825-1904), Lt. William B. Pierce (1826-1864), Phebe T. Pierce Clark (1829-1866), Charles W. Pierce (1831-1903), George W. Pierce (1833-?), Arthur Pierce (1835-1864) and Henry A. Pierce (1834-1864). At least three of their sons (William, Arthur, and Henry) died in the Civil War. Fortunately for Betsey, she died before the loss of her sons. George W. Pierce is not accounted for.
