Valerie went on to Ferris State College where she graduated in 1974 with an associate's degree in dental assisting. She returned to Port Huron and began working for Dr. Phillip Martin as the first certified dental assistant in the Port Huron area. In 1988 she went to work for Dr. Richard Brooks until her retirement in 2005.
Valerie enjoyed sewing, quilting, and all kinds of crafts. Her Christmas fruitcake was her specialty, and she was known as the family historian.
Valerie is survived by her sister, Gayle M. Farr of Port Huron, three brothers, Allan (Eileen) Campbell of Kalamazoo, Brian (Carol J.) Campbell of Fort Gratiot, and Craig (Sally) Campbell of Osceola, IN. She was very special to her eleven nieces & nephews, Carol Lynn, Heather, Erin, Scott, Caryn, Tricia, Tracy, Colleen, Angela, Cassandra, and Kent. She is also survived by thirteen great nieces & great nephews, and one great, great niece. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Robert Farr.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The funeral service will be on Thursday in the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. preceded by one hour of visitation. The Rev. Lydia Speller of Grace Episcopal Church will officiate. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery at a later time.
