Virgil Stone, 68, of Woodford County, died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 6, 2001, after being injured in an accident on a farm in the northwest part of the county.
Mr. Stone was working near a barn off Watts Ferry Road when a truck pulling a trailer backed up and pinned him against the barn at 11:24 a.m., said Rick Mayes, the operations officer for Woodford County Police Department.
Mr. Stone was flown by helicopter to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:18 p.m. from heart failure due to his injuries.
Born in Estill County, Mr. Stone was the son of the late Sherman and Mary Bell Hutchens Stone. He was retired from the Woodford County Road Dept. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Kevilly and Cheryl Lynn Wilson; two sons, Virgil W. Stone and Daniel Ray Stone, all of Florida; two sisters, Bea Ferdon, Ohio, and Eva Edwards, Tennessee; a brother, Sherman Stone, Versailles; and nine grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Duell-Clark Funeral Chapel, Versailles, by the Rev. Terry Jenkins. A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Robinson Cemetery, Estill County. Casket bearers were Virgil W. Stone, Daniel Ray Stone, Robert Wilson, Kevin Kevilly, Eddie Dean Smith, and Cecil Coffey Jr.
