National Briefing | South: Arkansas: Aides Charged In Beating

Capital murder charges were filed against two nursing home aides in the beating of an 81-year-old resident. The victim, Willie Mae Ryan, never regained consciousness after she was beaten with brass knuckles on July 30 and died on Aug. 14. An affidavit filed by detectives quoted one of the aides, Shermika Rainey, 17, as saying that she was recruited by Gayla S. Wilson, 44, to restrain Ms. Ryan while Ms. Wilson pummeled her ''for being disrespectful.'' The two worked at the Dallas County Nursing Home in Fordyce, where Ms. Ryan was a longtime resident.
