James Eugene Clark, born December 16, 1924 in Austin, Texas, died on May 23, 2015.

Jimmy was the only child of Gusta Ballard Clark and Eugene Foster "Gene" Clark, both of whom were deaf. Jimmy's grandparents, J.F. and Charlotte Clark also participated in parenting. Jimmy married Esma Beth Anderson in January of 1947 and they had four children, Cheryl, Jimmy, Jeff and Kerre. His parents predeceased Jimmy, as did his beloved wife of over 50 years, Esma Beth Clark. Jimmy and Esma Beth were a wedding musical duo with him singing and her playing the organ at weddings for decades in and around Austin. The family traveled with Jimmy to business conferences all over North America, and he and Esma Beth saw the world together. They lived a life of service to God, family and fellow man.

His loving wife of 14 years, Kathryn Forrest Clark, survives him. Their life together was full of gifts of laughter, love, joyful experiences, and family activities. Sharing thirteen grandchildren, they stayed on the go attending birthdays, sports activities, musical productions, graduations and marriages. Jimmy and Kathy enjoyed travel together and at each stop, he looked for new items for his collection of antique stickpins. Jimmy also loved being at home. Jimmy and Kathy being truly supported as a couple by both of their families, enjoyed a good life together.

His dear children who survive him: Cheryl Clark Crews (Jim) of San Antonio, Jimmy Earl Clark (Kay), of Weatherford, Jeffrey B. Clark (Teresa), of Austin; Kerre Clark Shipp (Dave), of Raleigh, NC.

Eight grandchildren gave Jimmy great memories and much happiness, and lovingly called him "Papa": Clark Crews (Quynh), Chris Crews (Becca), Wesley Clark (Amanda), Kelley Clark, Kevin Clark (Christina), Jamie Clark Richardson (Nate), Lori Shipp Wall (Matt) and David Shipp. These grandchildren cherish him, and shall miss him terribly. Four great grandsons also survive Jimmy.

Kathy's children, Shari Kasberg (Randy), Steve Best (Wendy) and Carrington Tibbetts (Larry) and their families also mourn the loss of Jimmy whom they so loved and admired. Grandchildren Randall Kathryn, Aly and Drew Kasberg, Stephen Best and Katelynn Margaret Tibbetts will miss him, his teasing and his hugs. They greatly appreciate his participation in their lives. He was their Papa J., a loving grandfather in every way.

J.E. "Jimmy'' Clark graduated from Austin High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas in 1949. While at UT, he was a member of the Tejas Club, and the intramural softball team champions. For many years, as early as his teens, Jimmy worked with J.M. Odom Construction, and was always thankful for the benefits provided to him by the Odom family. He built a successful career in the life insurance business with Prudential Insurance Company, and retired in 2002 after over 50 years in the business. He was a Life Member in the prestigious Million-Dollar Round Table. Jimmy was a people person and made many friends during his career because he never met a stranger. He loved people, animals, jokes, bright happy colors and ice cream -- a surefire way to make friends. Jimmy was a great communicator and all who knew him loved him.

Jimmy served in the United States Army during WWII, stationed in New Guinea and in Japan. He received numerous honors during his lifetime, and served on many boards and committees in the Austin community. He was a Deacon and served the University Baptist Church in a multitude of ways while rearing his family. Jimmy attended University Presbyterian Church the past years, forming a church family and participating in many activities. He joined UPC in 2011. Jimmy was an active member of the University Area Kiwanis Club, and held perfect attendance for over 50 years. A member of the GBATTS, Getting Better All The Time Singers, he loved music, good friends and performing. He recorded a CD of songs for his grandchildren to keep and others to enjoy, including all of his friends at Southern Hospitality Home where he received excellent care for the past two years. The family thanks all the caretakers who nurtured him during his stay. The family also thanks Dr. Urs and the nurses and technicians of St. David's Hospital Round Rock who cared for him following his fall.

A memorial service celebrating the life of J.E. "Jimmy'' Clark will be at University Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 2PM. In honor of Jimmy's memory, colorful attire is encouraged. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be directed to the Esma Beth Clark Music Scholarship Fund at University Presbyterian Church, 2203 San Antonio St., Austin, TX 78705, or to any Hospice or charity of one's choice.
