Sidney Reed Baxter, 76, died Monday at Baptist Hospital East He was a native of Anderson County, an Army veteran of World War II and a retired schoolteacher for Anderson and Harrison County schools. He was retired principal of Waggener High School and a member of Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors: his wife, the former Elizabeth Hawkins; three daughters, Myrta Boyle of Camarillo, Calif., Betty Rogers of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Frances Ogden of North Vernon, Ind.; three brothers, Biven Baxter of Leitchfield, Earl Baxter of Lawrenceburg and Hugh Baxter of Fort Pierce, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday, St Matthews Baptist Church, 3515 Grandview Ave., with burial in Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation at Pearson's, 149 Breckinridge Lane, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Expressions of sympathy: church memorial fund.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Reed Baxter announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Betty Ann Baxter, to Airman l.C. Larry Wayne Rogers, son of Mr. and Mrs. William T. Rogers of Lexington. Miss Baxter is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. Airman Rogers attended Eastern. He is stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C.
