Carl Henry Gillman

"Carl Gillman died peacefully at the age of 94 on May 28, 2015, at his family home in Hidden Valley Acres while on hospice care. He was born on July 4, 1920, in St. Peter's, the second oldest child of Charles and Mary Gillman. Married to Georgene Hirt for 68 years, Carl was raised on a small farm and quit high school at age 16 to help his father with the family farm. With his brother Leo Dick Gillman he started Gillman Brothers Construction in 1951 which he co-managed up until his retirement. One of their major projects was the development of Hidden Valley Acres subdivision. Carl was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church where he served on the school board and Eucharistic Minister for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he became Grand Knight. A board member of Main Source Bank, formerly People's Trust, he became President, leading the bank during a period of significant growth. A devoted husband and father, Carl enjoyed travel, excelled in wood working, and delighted in playing cards with friends and family. Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Langferman who lived near Sunman, and Elsie Stenger who lived in St. Leon, and by his brothers Leo Dick Gillman and Joseph Gillman, both of Brookville. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, from 4-8 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home in Brookville with Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Christian Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church on Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Al Hirt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Michael's Church.
