Mildred Lucille Day was born June 11, 1923 in Paris Kentucky to Charles Leroy and Mary Frances (Lakes) Day. She attended and graduated from Paris High School and later attended nursing school in New Jersey. Mildred “Jill” met Herman W. “Tex” Dukes while attending nursing school and they were married November 29th 1941 in De Leon, Texas. Jill worked as a nurse in Norfolk Virginia, and as a bookkeeper in Comanche Texas for approximately 12 years. She was a member of many Navy Wives Clubs in the U.S. and abroad, Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.), Sidney Baptist Church, and the local community since 1967.

Jill is survived by sons; daughter; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Herman “Tex” Dukes; parents, Mary and Roy Day; sisters, Anna Dale Day and Mary Leona Pelfrey; and brother, Charles Leroy Day, Jr.

The family would like to give a special note of thanks to the caregivers at Western Hills Nursing Home that played a significant role in easing her last months. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Sidney Baptist Church or the charity of givers choice.
