William S. “Bill” Griggs, 73, of Auburn passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

He was born Oct. 18, 1941, in Hartford City to Aubrey and Marguerite (Townsend) Griggs.

Bill was a 1959 graduate of Riverdale High School.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He worked for Auburn Gear for 39 years, retiring in 2003.

He was a member of the Local U.A.W. Bill was inducted into the Indiana Babe Ruth Hall of Fame as a coach in 1991. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed elk hunting with his brothers and family in Colorado.

Bill married Margaret E. “Peg” Keith on Aug. 15, 1964, in St. Joe, and she passed away March 30, 2014.

Surviving are a daughter, Jodi Jacobs of Auburn; two sons, William S. (Jessica) Griggs II of Garrett, and Jeffery Linn (Jennifer Miller) Griggs of Kendallville; 14 grandchildren, Breanna Griggs, Emalee Griggs, Nicholas Griggs, Seth Griggs, Ivan Jacobs, Hannah Jacobs, Hannah Seigel, Eli Jacobs, Ashley Griggs, Heath Griggs, Noah Griggs, Paige Griggs, Jeffrey Griggs, and Wyatt Griggs; five great-grandchildren, Trinadee Wiley, Rylan Gonzalez, Ahlana Warfield, Skylar Collins, and Kahlyci Maddox; five sisters, Fletta (Gene) Zerns, Delores Laux, Judy (Marty) Anspach, Veda Sue (Bill) Mauller, and Vickie (Rueben) Miller; four brothers, Aubrey Wedzel Griggs, Warren (Lucy) Griggs, Kevin (Jan) Griggs, and David (Pam) Griggs; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a sister, Lois Stauffer; two brothers, Robert Joseph Griggs and Karey Layne Griggs; a brother-in-law, Chuck Laux; and a sister-in-law, Sandy Griggs.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with visitation from 10 – 11 a.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Joe Heins will be officiating.

Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery in St. Joe with military graveside honors being conducted by the United States Air Force and American Legion Post 97 of Auburn.
