Christopher Augustus ("August") Rider was the son of Christopher Rider and Hulda M. Newman.

He married Charlotte ("Lottie") Ann Allyn, daughter of Henry J. Allyn and Elizabeth B. (Unknown), ca 1879 in Alexandria, Douglas County, Minnesota; the marriage ended between 1892 and 1896. The couple had seven sons and one daughter, namely:

George Orville Rider (1880-1896),
Albert Robert Rider (1881-1953),
George Isaac Rider (1882-1960),
John Vivian Rider (1883-1974),
Roy Franklin Rider (1885-1963),
Charles James Rider/Ryder (1887-1974),
Wilber D. Rider (1889-1959), and
Miranda Charlotte (Rider) [Larson] Spellman (1892-1974).

He married Charlotte ("Lottie") Ann Fair, daughter of Jehiel Asa Fair and Elizabeth ("Betsy") R. Allen, ca 1896; the marriage ended ca 1915. The couple had four sons and four daughters, namely:
