Mrs. Icy Jane Barnard Niten, age 90, of Ararat, VA passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, June 4, 2020, at Universal Health Care in King, NC. She was born in Patrick County to the late Thomas Bennett Barnard, Jr. and Nettie Myrtle Bowman Barnard. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed. Left to cherish her memory are three daughters and a son-in-law, Diane and Bobby Cox, Shirley Martin, and Nancy Plaster; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Sarah Niten, and Elbert and Lisa Niten; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Niten was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Wesley Niten; a son, Earl Wesley Niten; her sister, Marie Thompson; two brothers, Thomas Lee Barnard, and Garland Letch Barnard; and two sons-in-law, Lanny Martin and Larry Willard. Respecting the current limitations of numbers for public gatherings currently (COVID-19), a graveside service will be held on Sunday June 7, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Young Family Cemetery in Ararat, VA. Flowers will be accepted, and friends and family are welcome to view Mrs. Niten at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from Saturday afternoon until time of the service.
