John Allen Shrader, 70 of Narrows, went to be with his Lord on June 20, 2006 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on June 24, 1935 and was the son of the late Fitzhugh Lee and Flossie Glade Fizer Shrader. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Arnold Shrader.

He was a member of French's Chapel Church of Little Creek, Virginia, a member of IBEW Local #70 of Bethesda, Maryland, and a member of Intermont Lodge #269 A.F.& A.M. of Narrows.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Opal Geneva Dalton Shrader; two daughters, Sandra Fredman and husband Carl of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Betty Shrader of Narrows; two sons, Jerry Shrader and wife Aileen of Washington, D.C., David Shrader and wife Juanita of Narrows; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Arthur Shrader of Rich Creek, Granville and Donna Shrader, and Verlin and Loraine Shrader, all of Narrows.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with the Rev. Bill Akers officiating.

Burial will follow in the Shrader Cemetery in the Wolf Creek community. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m. conducted by Intermont Lodge #269.
