John T. Nelson was born in Los Angeles October, 13 1957 to Tom and Jean Nelson. The
youngest of three, John grew up in Mojave, Calif. with brother Dan and sister Susan. He
graduated from Mojave High School in 1975 and Antelope Valley College a few years
later.
John met Teri Friend, the love of his life, in 1975 and they were married in 1980. The
couple eventually moved to Bakersfield and had son Jonathan in 1983 and Ian in 1991. In
addition to his 36 years at Vons, John also volunteered with AYSO Region 73 for six
years. He loved the outdoors, gardening, hockey and soccer.
After a three year battle with cancer, John passed away at home April 22, 2014. He is
survived by his wife of 33 years, sons, dog, his father and step mother, siblings and
innumerable friends.
A viewing is scheduled for Friday April 25 at Greenlawn Mortuary from 4pm to 7pm on
Panama Lane. A celebration of life will be held Saturday April 26 at Bridge Bible Church
from 10 am to 1 pm.
The family wishes to send special thanks to Dr. Risbud, the nurses at Kaiser and Madelyn
and Tanya with Optimal Hospice.
