James Shannon Bennett, age 39, went home peacefully to be with the Lord after a battle with brain cancer on January 29, 2012 in Spokane, WA.

He is surrounded by his wife and best friend Heather J. Bennett, and two "miracle" children, Jake, 8 and Elizabeth (Lizzy) Bennett, 7. He was born to James E. and Anita Bennett on September 9, 1972 in Marks, MS.

He came into the world with a love for adventure. At the age of 5, he was diagnosed with leukemia and was treated at St. Jude Hospital, but survived leukemia and lived life to the fullest: rafting rivers, climbing 14ers, snowboarding, and exploring God's beautiful wonders from the Appalachian Mountains to the Rocky Mountains. He taught his family and friends where true strength and courage originates--Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Brandon Bennett; maternal grandfather, Harry S. Wimberly; and his paternal grandparents, Earl and Pat Bennett.

He is survived by his parents, James and Anita Bennett of Yazoo City; maternal grandmother, Louise Wimberly of Lambert.

A celebration of his life was held at The First Baptist Church, Yazoo City on February 4, 2012. The burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
