East Yorkshire Regt., who was wounded at El Alamein and fell into enemy hands where sadly died on 21st March 1942 age 25 and is Remembered with Honour on Alamein Memorial, Egypt. his three medals being:- The 1939-1945 Star, The Africa Star and 1939-1945 War Medal.

Cutting from Daily Mirror, July 8th 1942 states, "For bravery in his first engagement, Second Lieut. Edwin Shaw of the East Yorkshire Regt. has been awarded the Military Cross - etc. etc. and Second Lieut. Shaw did not leave the position until he had made certain that all his men had withdrawn, less one too SERIOUSLY WOUNDED to move" that was Alan Trower - taken prisoner by the Germans and died of wounds
