Casualty - Repatriation; Aircraft - Wellington DV676; Place - Egypt - 15 August 1942.
Crash Landed 15 Miles South of Minqar Zahr El Himar due to an Engine Failure when returning from a raid on Tobruk Harbour, 4 crew survived.
The crew members were;
SHAPIR Morris William - (Flight Sergeant) - 400357
Bond Jack Gordon – (Sergeant) – 400690 RAAF (Pilot)
Killed in an AIrcraft accident 18th Jul 1945. ( Ambon War Cemetery)
TAYLOR Alfred Allen– DFC (Sergeant) - 404306 - RAAF. Survived the crash & discharged from the RAAF 8th Feb 1955.
Efforts to locate the grave of Flt Sgt Shapir following the war failed.
