Davis (Allen), Carmen Carmen Jeanne Allen Davis, 86, was born in Minneapolis in 1928 and passed on 3/21/15 to be with her husband, Norman Edward Davis, and granddaughter, Devin Marie Jamison. Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Allen Sr and Margaret Allen, and older siblings. Carmen graduated from North High School in 1946 and in 1949 married Norman Davis. They had two children, Sharman Davis Barrett (Richard) and Brett Davis. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and their many achievements and will be missed by Yusef (Liana), Brettina, Drewcella, Katrena, Leticia, Dawn, Sean, and Joaquin. Carmen's professional career spanned many years. Carmen along with her friend, Jewell Beck, were the first African American telephone operators at Northwestern Bell in Minneapolis (Century Link). This paved the way for other African American women seeking careers with the telephone company. Carmen retired from Family and Children's Service in the 1990's. She became the owner of Ken and Norm's Liquors following the death of her husband, Norm. Carmen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. An elegant and beautiful woman, she dressed impeccably, her hair perfectly coiffed, and younger women often expressed a desire to be like Carmen in dress and demeanor. She enjoyed the love of many friends. Carmen was a charter member of the Just for Fun, a social club for women, which began in the late 1940's. The members sustained friendships spanning more than 60 years. Carmen will be buried at Ft Snelling with her loving husband, Norm.
