Phyllis was born May 22, 1922 in Berne, Ind. to the late Floyd B. Hunter and the late Esther (Binz) Hunter.
She was united in marriage to John E. "Jud" Acheson on July 3, 1943, and he preceded her in death on June 5, 1974. She later married Daniel Lehrman on August 31, 1985, and he also preceded her in death on February 14, 1996.
Phyllis was a 1940 graduate of Decatur High School. She then went to Van Wert Vocational School for one year to become an LPN and attended Wright State University.
She attended various churches throughout her life, most recently at the Decatur Church of God.
Phyllis worked for most of her nursing career for Dr. Merrill Osborn in Willshire, Ohio. She also worked as an industrial nurse at Federal Mogul in Van Wert, Ohio and at CTS in Berne. Her very first job was at the Decatur Daily Democrat.
Her wide circle of friends grew even larger during her nursing career for Dr. Merrill Osborn and at CTS in Berne. She is remembered with fondness for her love of people, never knowing a stranger. Until her admittance to the hospital, she could hold a conversation with anyone about topics from today or from years ago. She stayed abreast of current events, politics, sports, Pastor David Jeremiah's sermons, and the lives of her loved ones, and had a memory that could pull up details others may have forgotten. With eyesight failing, she still was constantly listening to Alexa read to her from books on her Kindle and from League for the Blind library. Her mind was engaged almost until the very end, and we are sure she is having long discussions with the saints in Heaven.
Phyllis is lovingly survived by her daughter, Gayle Hey of Fort Wayne, Ind.; son, John "Eric" Acheson of Van Wert, Ohio; son, Thomas (Cheryl) Acheson of Wren, Ohio; daughter, Beth Montgomery of Decatur, Ind.; daughter, Jeannie Acheson of Decatur, Ind.; step-son, Ronald (Marcia) Lehrman of Brownsburg, Ind.; step-son, Thomas (Barbara) Lehrman of Decatur, Ind.; step-daughter, Mary Ann (Randy) Steiner of Fort Wayne, Ind; sister-in-law, Joan Hunter of Ocala, Fla.; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild yet to come.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Phyllis was preceded in death by a step-son, Roger Lehrman; sister, Betty Fager; and brother, Robert B. Hunter.
