Calling hours will be held on Thursday (May 28, 2015) from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Baker passed away on Sunday (May 24, 2015) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Annabelle "Belle" Baker; three sons, Reg Baker and his wife Pat of Ann Arbor MI, Timothy Baker and his wife Shannon of Ogdensburg and Jeff Baker and his wife Lee of Seattle WA; a daughter, Brenda Zumwalt and her husband Capt. Eric Zumwalt of Oswego; grandchildren Craig Murphy and his wife Colleen, Curtis Baker, Nate Baker, and Jennifer Indorato; great-grandchildren Steven Indorato, Elizabeth Indorato, Conall Murphy and Aine Murphy; a special nephew, Al Premo and his wife Judy; along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by siblings, Kenneth Baker at age 8, Eunice Baker at age 12 and Lola (Baker) White.
"Bunk" was born on May 19, 1925 in Ogdensburg, a son of the late Harry S. & Ethel O. (Jackson) Baker. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1944 where he was a High School standout athlete lettering in Baseball and Track. In 1945, he entered the United States Navy during WWII, earning a purple heart during the Pacific Theatre. He then married Annabelle (Belle) Robinson on May 25, 1946 at St. Mary's Cathedral Rectory.
Bunk was a co-owner and operator of Commercial Press in Canton for many years. He was a simple man, enjoying his church family, participating in the Knights of Columbus, watching Boston Red Sox Baseball and Syracuse Basketball. He also enjoyed, St. Lawrence University Hockey, gardening, coaching minor hockey and playing Can Am Baseball in his younger years.
Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or St. Mary's Cathedral.
