BURRELL HAWKINS DIES AT KANSAS CITY
Burrell Hawkins, of Kansas City, Mo., a former resident of Mt. Vernon and Dix, died at his home at Kansas City last night at the age of 69. He had been ill for some time with a form of paralysis. He was a brother of J. C. Hawkins and an uncel to Dr. Martha Jayne and Mrs. John Scott, all of whom reside in Centralia. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hawkins, and was a farmer and school teacher for several years in Jefferson county and served as circuit clerk here for two terms. He was first married to Mamie B. Osborne who died several years ago and he later married Dena Jackson of Mt. Vernon, who survives, along with three daughters, Mrs. Chloe Payne of Kansas City, and Misses Edith and Dora Hawkins of Kansas, a son, Neil Hawkins of Kansas City, two brothers, J. F. Hawkins of Centralia and E. J. Hawkins of Dix, four sisters, Mrs. Emma Jennings of Dix, Miss Eva Hawkins of Dix, Miss (sic.) Lena Fields of Centralia and Mrs. Ella McMeen of Jonesboro, Ark., besides several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Dix, with the Rev. A. L. Smith of Dix officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
