Anthony E. Chambers, 93, of Carmichaels, died Thursday, August 28, 2014, in the home of his son, Barry, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie.
He was born January 20, 1921, in Sunshine, Fayette County, a son of the late Dominic and Josephine Chambers.
Mr. Chambers served his country in World War II in the South Pacific as an U.S. Army combat engineer.
He was employed by Colony Lumber Co., Painesville, Ohio, until his retirement.
Mr. Chambers was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491, Carmichaels. In his final years, he enjoyed watching traffic on Route 88, and all the birds and critters that came to the feeders on Barry and Stephanie's hilltop home.
Surviving are four sons, Eugene Chambers of Richeyville, Barry Chambers (Stephanie) of Carmichaels, Ronald Chambers (Marianne) of Ambridge and Jaime Chambers (Lisa) of Crucible; two daughters, Darlene Hathaway of Pitt Gas and Marlene Reed (David) of Carmichaels; nine grandchildren, Dominic, Megan, Floretta, Anthony and Jaime Chambers, Jack and David Hathaway and Heather and Justin Anderson; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Agnes Vasillo.
Deceased are a son, Anthony; brother John; and a sister, Angeline Hoon.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320, 724-966-5100, Paul M. Lesako, funeral director/supervisor. A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, in the funeral home chapel, followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. in St. Hugh Church, Carmichaels, with the Rev. John M. Bauer, celebrant. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign War Post 3491 in St. Mary's Cemetery, Crucible. A parish wake service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. Monday.
