Robert Adams was probably born in Bedminster, New Jersey after his father had migrated from County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He married about 1761 in New Jersey to Elizabeth Chambers, daughter of John & Eleanor Chambers. He migrated to southwest Pennsylvania with his parents and settled in what is now Fayette County. During the Revolutionary War Robert served as a 2nd Major in the 3rd Battalion of the Westmoreland County Militia. He acquired land for his service, which he named "Paradise" farm. He died there in 1806 but his burial place is unknown.
