Ben Dean Lewis, age 81, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Advance, Mo., in the family's log cabin home to Dean Edward Lewis and Opal Ree Richmond Lewis on Nov. 5, 1932. He was preceded in death by a one-week-old daughter, Sherry Lynn, in May 1963.

Ben was married to his sweetheart Peggy Jo Powers Lewis, for nearly 56 years. He was the loving father to son, Danny G. Lewis and his wife Vickie Mayberry Lewis, and to daughter Vicki J. Lewis Jenkins and her husband Andy Jenkins. He was a devoted grandfather to his five grandchildren, Kevin, Casey and Summer Lewis, and Tara and Dex Jenkins. Ben was the loving caretaker of numerous kitties.

Ben served in the U.S. Army in post-World War II Germany during the Korean War era. He was also a 50-year member of the Free Masons of the Grand Lodge of Missouri. Ben worked for Tyler Pipe Industries for more than 25 years and was an avid table tennis player, having competed and medaled in the World Senior Games in St. George, Utah.
