Jimmie A. Welch, 69, of Sioux City died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. A.T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Welch was born May 28, 1934, in Beresford, S.D. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He married Clytha "Jean" Burns on Aug. 29, 1959, in Beresford. He was a truck driver for more than 40 years for several companies. He also owned his own trucking company for a few years. The last several years he was a bus driver for the Sioux City School District. The last five years, he had wintered in Yuma, Ariz.

He enjoyed working in the yard and loved flowers and reading.

He is survived by his wife, Clytha "Jean" of Sioux City; three sons, Jeffrey Welch and his fiancee, Kristi Jarecki of Le Mars, Iowa, Steven Welch of Sioux City, and David Welch of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Craig Luze of Blair, Neb.; a brother, Ronald Johnke of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four grandchildren, Karter Welch, Kelsey Welch and Larry and Valerie Leigh; an aunt, Darlene Singer of Beresford, S.D.; an uncle, Howard Welch of San Diego, Calif.; and five nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother and aunts.

Pallbearers will be Don Ayers, Claire Thedorff, Shawn Hoffman, Larry Speich, Jeff Mueller and Travis Dye. Honorary pallbearers will be Walt Macklem, Russell Loghry, Mike Bovill and Earl Farley
