Fairmont Churchman Dies of Heart Disease
FAIRMONT, June 10 (AP) - Rev. Herman G. Stoetzer, 71 years old, Presbyterian minister, died yesterday in his pulpit as he said a last prayer and pronounced the word "Amen" at a funeral service.
The minister, pastor of the First Presbyterian church which was built during his pastorate, was born in Germany. His first job was as a bell boy in a Wheeling hotel, in the employ of the late E.M. Statler, hotel magnate. He was a graduate of West Virginia University and Princeton Theological seminary.
He was elected this week president of the Phi Beta Kapa fraternity, at West Virginia University. He also was a former president of the university alumni association.
Rev. Mr. Stoetzer was officiating at the funeral of Mrs. H.B. Hungerford, one of his parishioners for 20 years, when he was stricken. Heart disease was given as the cause of death.
His widow, Margaret Brown Stoetzer, and a son, John J., of Fairmont, survive.
