EUGENE WHITE
On Sunday, May 9, 2021, Eugene White, a selfless and loving husband, father, and papaw, passed away at the age of 76. He was born to Lonnie White and Sue Wigley White on September 25th, 1944. Also known as Gene or "Big Gene," he was a lifetime resident of Yazoo County, MS. Gene began his lifelong career of hard work at the age of 15. Shortly after, he took up farming which would later become his source of livelihood for his family. Gene married Nancy Dixon of Benton, MS, in 1965 and had twin boys Gene Thomas and Jeff Lavelle. Gene raised and mentored his twin boys on their farm and instilled in them his same dedication for hard work. His wife Nancy passed away in January of 1981. Later that year, Gene would marry his current wife Barbara Griffing of Benton, MS, on November 12, 1981. Gene would later transition his career to Crabtree Manufacturing where he was hired as a machinist and would remain a devoted employee until his passing.

Gene was a well-loved and respected man in his community. He was an avid outdoorsman who thrived in God's creation. Along with his large stature, he carried a heart that was equally as big. Fathering twin boys and three step-children as his own, he loved them fiercely and protected his family as a faithful husband and loving father. Gene spent his life placing others' needs before his own and always lent a helping hand whenever he saw the need. Gene lived his life with open arms and opened his doors to other family members who needed a place to stay.

Gene is survived by his wife Barbara of 39 years; his son Jeff White and wife Carla, son Dale VanGorder and wife Judy, his daughter, Clair Pierce and husband Chris, and daughter-in-law, Eden White, all of Benton, MS. He is survived by nine grandchildren: Brandon VanGorder and wife Whitney of Benton, MS; Jordy White and wife Laura of Madison, MS; Hayden White and wife Emily of Ellisville, MS; Joe White and wife Madison of Benton, MS; Devin Che' Smith and husband Phillip of Benton, MS; Christina Crabtree and husband Preston of Bentonia, MS; and Layton, Brett, and Vaden Pierce of Benton, MS. Gene has six great-grandchildren and a multitude of nephews and nieces. Sister-in-law Nelly White of Benton, MS also survives him.

He was preceded in death by parents Lonnie and Sue White, late wife Nancy White, brother Herbert White and wife Barbara, brother Howard White, and son Gene White.

Gene will be greatly missed by family and friends.
