His first job was drawing and painting the theater marquees for Vancouver theatres. For several years he worked as a graphic artist and was especially known for his talent doing gold leaf lettering. Eventually he opened his own business, Seymour Signs.
In Vancouver he met Olwyn Williams, who became his wife for 64 years. In 1950 their youngest son was killed in a tragic accident. They moved to Lynn Valley with their older son and daughter and, for several years, opened their home to foster children.

Stanley was a very talented artist. He loved music, baseball games, good food, practicing piano and guitar ,playing card games, and especially, laughing. He will be remembered by all who knew him as very kind, gentle, helpful and always a gentleman.
He is survived by his son Robert Ellis (Grace) in Melfort, Sask. and daughter Judy (Hans) in Reno, 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
