2015 obituary. Portland- Roberta Paulette Davis-Ray, 77, of The Pines; Old Orchard Beach, Maine went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday March 21, 2015. She was born in Portland, Maine on May 9, 1937 into the loving home of Paul and Pearl (Plaisted) Davis. Roberta graduated from Portland High School and received a degree in clinical counseling from New England Baptist College and the University of Southern Maine. She was married to Edgar Elsworth Ray on August 26, 1955. Known to many of her family and friends as “Bobbie” she was first and foremost a dedicated and loving mother to her four children and helped support her family through longtime employment with Healthtex in Portland and through a Tupperware franchise. To her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and most any other child who knew her she was “Marmie". Roberta was a dedicated volunteer at ABBA, A Woman’s Resource Center in Portland and had a passion for the care and support of pregnant women and young mothers and their children. She was also a committed member of initially First Baptist Church and later, North Deering Christian and Missionary Alliance Church; both located in Portland, Maine serving in many rolls including Deaconess, Sunday school teacher and as a member governing board. Roberta was predeceased by her parents Paul and Pearl Davis, and her brother Sherwood (Woody) Davis. She is survived by her former husband Edgar, of Sherman; her sons; her daughters, her sister Barbara Richardson, of Biddeford; her brother Terrance Davis and his wife Betty of Windham; her brother Charles and his wife Hildegard of California; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Manor in Saco, Maine and Maine Medical Center for their compassionate and professional care of Roberta over the last few months. A very special thank you to Critical Care nurse “Will” at the Maine Med emergency department for his honesty, compassion and unwavering support of Roberta and all of her family who was by her side before and after her departure from this life. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 6-8 PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 6:00 PM at North Deering Alliance Church; 1301 Washington Avenue, Portland, Rev. Stephen Espling, officiating.
