Effie Lee Broom, 91, of North Charleston, widow of Willie Sylvester Broom, passed away quietly at the home of her daughter in Broadway, VA on Friday, May 22, 2015.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. The relatives and friends of Effie L. Broom are invited to attend her funeral service on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Wando Woods Baptist Church, 4123 Dorsey Ave, Charleston, SC 29405. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.

Effie was born August 6, 1923, in Mt. Airy, GA, a daughter of the late Joseph Laudermilk and Mary Lee Walker Laudermilk. She was a founding member of Wando Woods Baptist Church, and worked many years as director of the kindergarten. She was very active at the church and school. She worked at Sears Roebuck as an interior designer. Effie could do anything from fix a car, cut down a tree, or make a tuxedo!

She is survived by her daughters, Bren McGillivray Smith (Don) of Broadway, VA, Janet Shulmann (Klaus) of Germany; a son, Forrest Broom of Charleston, SC, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
