Myrna Dolores Adams, 86, of Rock Island, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the music fund at Church of Peace UCC in Rock Island.

Myrna was born on August 14, 1928, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Edward John and Stella Lane Koehler. She was raised by her grandmother, Dorothea Koehler, and her uncle and aunt, Louis and Ella Giesenhagen. She married Robert Adams on August 12, 1951, at Church of Peace UCC in Rock Island, and he preceded her in death on December 10, 2004.

Myrna graduated from Moline Public School of Nursing and worked for many years in pediatrics at Moline Public Hospital as well as a pediatric nurse for Dr. Goran in Moline. In her final years of nursing, she was a registered nurse for T.B. Clinic of Rock Island County for 5 years, retiring in 1983. Nursing was a calling for Myrna. She loved it. Her nurturing ways and compassion were always evident.

Myrna was a life-long member of Church of Peace UCC in Rock Island. She enjoyed doing volunteer work there and was heavily involved in church activities. Myrna was a member of the Altar Guild, Women’s Guild, and Church Council. She was a member of Filiae Pacis Circle and attended adult Sunday school.

In her younger years, Myrna was an assistant Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout leader. Family meant everything to her and she carried her role of wife, mother, and grandmother, perfectly. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and also loved dogs.

Above all, Myrna will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert Lewis Adams; grandson, Robert Eugene Manthey; sister, Stella Fowler; brothers-in-law, George Fowler and Robert Anderson.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bickford Cottage, Dr. Kristi Chang and her staff, the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and the staff of Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their wonderful care and compassion.
