Walter was the son of Edward and Clara (Drinkwine/Boivin) Barkyoumb (He had 8 other siblings: Louis-Edward, Helen, Lena, William, Florence, Eva, Gordon and Reginald). He died in Belgium during WW2 listed missing in Action.

He married on Oct 16, 1943 in Burlington, Vermont to Gwendolyn Agnes Greenwood. Their daughter JoAnn was born on July 2, 1944 in Burlington, Vermont.

Walter has a military stone in Mt Calvary Cemetery, St Albans, Vermont: "Walter J Barkyoumb Pvt, 141 Inf, WW1 b June 6 1920 d Dec 19, 1944".
