Attorney, soldier, assemblyman, state senator. Commodore Perry Vedder was a graduate of the Springville (NY) Academy and served in the 154th New York Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War, rising from the rank of private into the field grade of lieutenant colonel. Admitted to the state bar in 1866, and served in the New York Assembly from 1872-1875 and in the New York Senate as 32nd District representative from 1875-1877 and from 1884 to 1891. State assessor from 1880 to 1883 and U.S. Internal Revenue assessor for two years. At-large delegate to the New York state constitutional convention of 1894. President and founder of several industrial corporations.

Senator Vedder was my great-great grandmother Nancy Ellen Prime Vedder's second cousin, and he is my first cousin four times removed.
