From Vermont Vital Records of Rev. Soldiers Buried in Vermont:
Name: James Little
Cemetery: Morristown Cem
Location: Morristown VT 58
There is no marked grave for James. He may be buried on his farm land
From Kathleen Baxter fourth great granddaughter
According to his pension statement and other records, James Little was born on 16 August 1758 in Litchfield, Connecticut to Dr. Thomas Little and his wife, Zerviah Cogswell. On May 2, 1776, he volunteered for Revolutionary War service with the Connecticut State troops under Captain Besaleel Bebee for an eight months enlistment. The following November, he was captured by the British in New York, imprisoned on an aging ship in horrible conditions, and fed very little. Almost all of his companions died, but he eventually was freed and returned to Litchfield.
On 30 Oct 1779, he married Sarah Hodges, whose parents are unknown, in Litchfield. Their children were David B Little 1780-1842, Lydia Little, 1782-1855, Sophia Little, 1784-1853, Wallace Asa Little 1786-1862, Anna Little 1788-1872, Dyantha P. Little, 1790-1849, James Bl Little 1790-1860, Lurena Little, 1800-1865
In 1784, he and his brother bought a lot in Middlebury, Vermont, living there for several years and eventually moving to what is now Morristown in Lamoille County.
Sarah died on 22 Sep 1812, and James married Rosetta Knight Allen on 30 Mar 1813. She was the daughter of Stephen Knight and the widow of Theron S. Allen. She had a daughter, Weltha or Wealthy Purdy Allen, 1805-1832, who married John C. Page in Morrisville.
The children ofJames and Rosetta were Madison M. Little, born about 1814, about whom we have found almost no information, Hannah Little born about 1822, Harvey or Haman Little, 1824-1881 and Fidelia or Phidelia Little 1827-1916, who married John Gilman, who was hanged for murder in Oregon. The latter three children and their mother moved to Elkhart, Indiana. Harvey or Haman had harsh words to say about his parents.
