Richard graduated from Gannon University, and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a customer service supervisor with Penelec for 34 years, and was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. He enjoyed boating and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris and Rita Custer; his Godson, Ryan Joseph "Rydo" Palmer (d 7/19/2013 in CO age 35 in a hiking accident); and his former wife, Shirley Custer.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Debra Foltyn Custer; his three children, Richard J. Custer and his wife Dalena of Charlotte, N.C., Danielle M. Inman and her husband Tim of Pittsburgh, and Michael Custer and his wife Eileen of Flower Memorial, Texas; six grandchildren and a seventh granddaughter on the way; and many nieces, nephews.
Burial in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
