She was born on June 26, 1922, in McCreary County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late James Sherman and Rosanna (Davenport) Sumner. On Aug. 14, 1938, Lizzie married Gilson Jones, who preceded her in death March 9, 1984.
She is survived by eight children, Arnold (Loraine) Jones, Mary Turner, Janie (Dee) Wilson, James RO (Betty) Jones and Betty (Bob) Morris, all of Sidney, Earnie (Peggy) Jones, of Waynesfield, Verdon Ray (Nancy) Jones and Glenna (Charlie) Murphy, both of Sidney; 37 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; 58 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Oren Jones, Lola Woods and Bobby Jones, and seven siblings, Earl, Henry, Mart, George, Willie, Dessie and Delcie.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of New Life Church in Port Jefferson. She was a devoted mother who raised and cared for her children as well as many other neighborhood kids. She enjoyed gardening and quilting, but she will be remembered most of all for her great Christian example.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, with Pastors Earnie Jones, Bryan Jones and Jessie Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
