Laura Belle Lucas, age 91, passed away peacefully on the farm in rural New Hartford on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2015 at the New Hartford Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Lewis and Rev. Steve Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Keith Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.

Laura was born June 29, 1923 in New London, the daughter of William Thomas and Lora Goldie Parker Eales. On December 21, 1940 in Troy, she married Charles Richard Lucas. He preceded her in death on February 9, 1989. Survivors include two sons Charles Jessie Lucas and wife Wanda, Bradley Eugene Lucas and wife Marilyn; five grandchildren Sarah Lucas, David Lucas, Michelle Kinsey and husband Jim, Brittany Lucas, Stefanie Cannon and husband Zachary; four great grandchildren Angelina Lucas, Maggie Ramsey, J.J. Kinsey, and Danny Kinsey; one sister Katherine Marjorie Motley; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Laura Belle grew up in rural New London and has been a resident of the New Hartford area since 1940. She was a member of the New Hartford Baptist Church and the Happy Homemakers Club of New Hartford. Laura Belle enjoyed cooking, working in her gardens, sharing her vegetables and flowers, and most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed going to Mt. Pleasant, IA to the Old Thrashers and Settlers Reunion. She loved being able to take her grandchildren with her in her “little red truck”. In her later years she enjoyed going to MeMe’s Pantry often and enjoying coffee and lemon pie. Her family is blessed to say she was a 29 year breast cancer survivor.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Lucas, Zachary Cannon, Jim Kinsey, Bill Motley, Jerry Motley and Bill Holmes. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Lucas, Jesse Lee Lucas, Roger Motley, Tom Dempsey, LaVern Perkins, Cecil W. Harness, Sam Harrelson and Micah Holmes.

Memorials may be made to the New Hartford Baptist Church or the Pike County Home Health and Hospice.
