Steven W. "Grizz" "Goompa" Burgess, age 52, of Parker Rd. Westfield, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at home.
Steven was born on March 25, 1961 in Westfield, NY the son of Ronald Burgess of Portland, NY and the late Shirley (Perryman) Burgess.
Steve attended Brocton Central School and furthered his education at Cornell University studying Business Management.
He married his best friend of 33 years and the love of his life, Susan Frey, on July 21, 1990 in Portland, NY. They had their first date on September 20, 1980; a very special day to the two of them.
Steve was an accomplished butcher and had worked for many years at Quality Markets in Westfield in the meat department. He also enjoyed processing many of his friend's wild game meats.
He was a member of the Westfield Fish and Game Club, and loved to hunt and fish, especially deer hunting. He enjoyed spending many hours at his deer camp and enjoyed observing the wonders of nature.
His favorite hobby was American History; especially the Civil War and WW II as well as the old Wild West.
He loved to read in his spare time, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren on his land were the most precious times of his life.
Besides his father Ronald of Portland, Steve is survived by his wife of 23 years, Susan(Frey) Burgess and their daughter Amanda (Josh) Pierce of Westfield; his step-children, Thomas (Brenda) Brown and Michael Brown both of Jamestown, NY; and Heather (Guy) Hood of Savannah, GA. He was the proud grandfather of, Dillon, Alexis, Nathaniel, Morgan, Corbin,
Christian, Steven, Jailyn, Cierra, Kyle, Chelsea, and Izick.
He is further survived by his four brothers: Randy Burgess of Portland, NY; Scott (Barb) Burgess of Rock Hill, SC, Duane (Rose) Burgess of Brocton, NY, and Darren (Ethel) Burgess also of Brocton.
Besides his mother Shirley, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Burgess.
Burial will be private in Portland Evergreen Cemetery
