Johnston, Henry P., ed.; "The Record of Connecticut Men in the Military and Naval Service During the War of the Revolution, 1775 - 1783;" (Hartford CT, 1889): Served as a private in Capt. Richard Hewitt's company in Col. Jonathan Latimer's regiment from 24 Aug to 1 Nov 1777.


Mr. Smith fought at Saratoga, New York, in the Continental Brigade under Gen. Enoch Poor and in Gen. Benedict Arnold's division. Smith fought in battles on 19 September and 7 October.
