Joseph A. Montgomery
OGDEN—Joseph Albert Montgomery, 78, West Point, died in a local hospital at 1:45 P. M. Wednesday following a short illness.


Mr. Montgomery was born July 15, 1870, in North Ogden. a son of Robert and Ann Chadewick Montgomery. He lived in North Ogden until he was 23 years of age. He married Margaret Bartlett, Dec. 2, 1891, in the Logan temple. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1893 he moved to Yost, Box Elder county, where he engaged In farming and stock raising. While there he was president of the Yost L D S branch. He later served as ward counselor and 11 years as ward bishop. He was also a trustee of the school board at Yost. He moved to West Point, Davis county, in 1918 and has lived there since that time. In West Point he was active as a ward teacher as long as his health would permit. Following the death of his first wife he married Verna Judkins Smith in the Salt Lake LDS temple in April, 1922. They later separated.


Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Harland, Lloyd J. and DeLoy Montgomery, Mrs. Verda Johnston and Mrs. Florence Blake, West Point ; Mrs Jennie Lee, Malta, Ida. ; Mrs. Norene Edgerton, Englewood. Colo.; one stepson, Dale J. Montgomery, Newport Beach, Cal.; the following brothers and sisters: Heber A. Montgomery, West Point ; Charles A. Montgomery, Yost ; Mrs. Isabelle Oman, Yost : Mrs. Margaret Lee, Idaho Falls, Ida. ; Mrs. Pearl Brewerton, Acequia, Ida., and Mrs. Bessie Eames, Salt Lake City; 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be conducted at West Point at 1 p.m. Saturday in the LDS chapel by Elaine D. Fisher, bishop.


Friends may call at the home of Mrs. Maurice Johnston in West Point Friday evening and Saturday morning before the
funeral hour. Burial will be in the West Point cemetery under direction of Lindquist and sons mortuary.
