Dorothy M. Magee, 95, passed away May 17, 2015, in Cañon City, Colorado.
The daughter of Edgar M. and Hazel (Robb) Miles, she was born May 27, 1919, in Wichita, Kansas.
She was married to Dr. Charles R. Magee on Sept. 1, 1940, in Wichita. In 1945, at the end of World War II, Dr. and Mrs. Magee relocated to Marion, Kansas. There she was elected as the first woman to the Marion school board, appointed as the first woman on the FFHA board, served on the library board, and the low-income housing board. Dorothy also taught Sunday school and served on the pulpit committee of her church.
After Dr. Magee’s passing in 1967, she became a resident advisor at Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, and stayed there until her retirement in 1980. That same year, Mrs. Magee moved from Kansas to Georgetown, Colorado and then to Cañon City. She was a member of P.E.O. and enjoyed playing bridge. She loved horses and enjoyed life.
Mrs. Magee is survived by: children, JoAnn (Tom) Berry, Jim (Debra) Magee, and David (Jackie) Magee; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, and her grandson, Christopher Berry.
At her request, no services will be conducted. Donations are being accepted by Holt Mortuary, 806 Macon Ave, Cañon City, CO 81212 and will be given to Dorothy’s memorial fund. There will be a graveside service in Marion at a later date.
