Velma was born in Portland, IN on January 8, 1922, a daughter of the late Susan (Warren) and Ben Garringer.
She worked as a laborer at Kerr Glass in Dunkirk, IN.
She was a charter member of Redkey Faith Ministries Redkey, IN, Quilters Club, Eastern Star, and Vice President of the "Wandering Widows". She enjoyed mowing, gardening, and loved her children and grandchildren dearly.
Velma was a Jefferson Township High school Graduate and the widow of Charles Henry who she happily married in June, 1942.
Velma is survived by two sons, Darrell G., husband of Patricia Henry, of Redkey, IN, Dale Dean, husband of Penny Henry, of West Alexandria, OH. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy A. (Henry) England and her son, DeWayne Henry; three brothers; four sisters and one grandson, J.D. Henry.
Funeral services are 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 at MJS Mortuaries, Redkey Chapel with Pastor Joe Hines officiating.
Friends are invited to call from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday at MJS Mortuaries, Redkey Chapel.
Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Redkey, IN.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia Foundation or Redkey Faith Ministries.
