Paula Roberts Abbott, 70, was sung into Heaven by her family on Monday, June 19, 2006. Daughter of Lisle V. Roberts and the late Ruth Hale Roberts, she is survived by her husband, Kenneth Abbott, her three children, Ken (Joyce) Abbott of Lexington, Melanie Abbott Merritt (Kenny) of Rockcastle County and Sallie Abbott of Lexington; three grandchildren, Joshua and Jeremiah Merritt and Jacob Abbott; her father, Lisle Roberts, of Monticello; a sister, Rona Roberts of Lexington, and two brothers, Howard Roberts of California, and Jonathan Roberts of Monticello.


Paula received her degree in music from Berea College in 1961 and received her Master of Arts degree in Education from Eastern Kentucky University in 1985. She taught music at Silver Creek Elementary School for several years, then Red Foley Middle School until she retired after 29 years. She glorified God with music as music director, pianist and organist at Westside Baptist Church for decades and as a part-time organist for Lakes Funeral Home.


Celebration of life for Paula will be 11 am Thursday June 22, 2006 at the building site of Westside Baptist Church on Prince Royal Drive with Rev. Allen Livingood officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-9 pm at Lakes Funeral Home.


In lieu of flowers or other gifts of honor, the family suggests contributions to Westside Baptist Church Building Fund, 138 Mary Street, Berea, KY 40403, in her memory.
