Eugene L. "Gene" Holmes, Jr. 84, of Franklin, died peacefully, at his home Friday October 24, 2014 following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary L. (Devereaux) Holmes.
Born February 17, 1930 in Boston, a son of the late Eugene L. Holmes, Sr. and Ellen M. (Brogren) Holmes, he formerly resided in the Roslindale section of Boston before moving to Franklin in 1979.
He was raised and educated in Boston, and was a graduate of English High School. Mr. Holmes was a retired food sales representative, having worked for many companies in the area. He also assisted his son in the operation of Tri State Truck Center in Shrewsbury.
Gene was a devoted family man, and cherished time spent with them, he enjoyed woodworking, computers, photography, and traveling to all the New England states. He was a communicant of St. Jude Church, Norfolk and was a United States Navy reservist.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Gene is survived by 2 sons, Eugene L. Holmes III of Attleboro and Kevin G. Holmes and his wife Lee of Ashland, and 3 grandchildren, Brittany, Trevor, and Ryley Holmes.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass Wednesday Oct. 29th at 10AM in St. Jude Church 86 Main St. Norfolk, MA 02056. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Franklin.
