Mrs. J. A. Stevenson, 81, died, Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Dandridge, eight and one-half miles south of Ennis on the Emhouse road, following a long illness.
Funeral services were Thursday at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Calvin Jenkins, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Italy, and the Rev. A. J. Kirkland, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Ennis, officiating.
Interment was made in Myrtle Cemetery.
Mrs. Stevenson, formerly Elizabeth Scott, was born in Gibson County, TN, April 14, 1857, and was married there about 65 years ago to John Franklin Crews. Mr. and Mrs. Crews came to Texas shortly after their marriage and lived in the Ennis community for a while, then returned to TN, later moved to Stoddard County, MO, where they resided for several years, and in 1889 returned to the Ennis community, where Mr. Crews died in 1898.
In 1901, Mrs. Crews was married to J. A. Stevenson, who died in Ennis during the influenza epidemic in 1918.
Mrs. Stevenson is survived by two children, a daughter, Mrs. J. C. Dandridge, with whom she has made her home since the death of her husband, and a son, T. A. Crews, of Ennis, a step-daughter, Mrs. Georgia Cummings of Ennis. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Mrs. Stevenson has been a member of the Bethel Baptist Church near Ennis since moving to that community.
