Annette Elaine Shaulis Barkman, 64, Somerset, passed on Oct. 5, 2013, at Somerset Hospital. Born Oct. 18, 1948, in Somerset, daughter of the late Honorable Norman A. Shaulis. Survived by her husband of 29 years, Jon A. Barkman; and daughters, Caitlin E. Barkman, Somerset; and Meredith E. Barkman, Erie. She was anticipating the arrival of her first granddaughter on Dec. 30. Annette was a graduate with a bachelor's degree from Dickinson College and a master's degree from Indiana University of PA. She was a former airline attendant and was a social worker for the Bedford/Somerset MH/MR and also for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at Somerset State Hospital. She later became a business owner, having operated the Somerset Credit Bureau and Garrett Management Associates. Annette was a part-time substitute teacher for the IU8 Unit. She was past-president of Somerset Welfare League and was longtime chairwoman of the league's annual Christmas Cotillion. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, Somerset. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, pastors Linda McElroy-Thomas and Arnie McFarland, officiating.
